Sutton Coldfield’s MP, Andrew Mitchell, has welcomed the significant measures announced last week in the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement which will help support the cost of living for households and boost economic growth in Sutton Coldfield.
The Autumn Statement set out measures designed to protect the economy, help British businesses grow and support people who can and want to work.
In the West Midlands alone 2 million people will benefit from the Personal Allowance increase. This will see 22,000 people exempt from paying Income Tax altogether. The State Pension increase will benefit 1.1 million pensioners who will receive a rise of £2.70 per week. Cancellation of the planned Fuel Duty rise will mean that an average driver will save £40 per year.
Andrew Mitchell MP, said “The measures introduced in the Autumn Statement are good news for both families and businesses in Sutton Coldfield.”
“Although the economic situation remains tough and difficult decisions have been necessary we are making good progress. The deficit is forecast to keep on falling every year of this Parliament.
“In Sutton Coldfield local traders have seen a positive upturn in sales during the first weeks in December. In addition it is good news that The Mall has successfully secured a number of new, high quality retailers over recent months.”
