Local Conservative Councillors Andrew Hardie and Louise Passey have launched a bid to name Boldmere Gate at Sutton Park the UK's Best.
The UK's Best Park competition is ran by Fields in Trust, an organisation that protects community green sites and parks across the UK. Last years contest was won by Telford Park which has since been brought to National attention, being mentioned in Parliament, honoured by civic leaders and featured in Her Majesty The Queens 90th Birthday Video.
The area has been nominated by the Councillors who have highlighted its “natural beauty and vast community use”. It is hoped that the public will support the bid along with business and civic leaders.
The voting began on the 20th of October and it is up to the public to support the bid through voting and making their voices heard.
Speaking about the bid Councillor Louise Passey said “Sutton Park has been a part of my life and my families lives for many years. It's a wonderful space and we're incredibly lucky to have it. This competition gives us the opportunity to show the UK what we already know. Sutton really is the best park in the UK and the heart of our community.”
Councillor Andrew Hardie added “I hope that the community will get behind this bid. We are very proud of Sutton Park and we want the entire country to know it. We must treasure our open spaces, protect the green belt and highlight just how much they mean to us. This competition can do just that.”
