Andrew Mitchell MP has visited New Oscott Primary School to speak to Year 6 pupils about their Rotary Association Junior Community Awards as well as mark the retirement of Headteacher Mrs Linda Whitfield.
Mr Mitchell was invited to the school by Mrs Whitfield following a visit of 90 Year 6 pupils to Parliament on 10 June. Andrew spoke to the pupils about their recent trip, as well as his role as Sutton’s Member of Parliament.
Sutton’s MP also congratulated the 30 Year 6 pupils who received their Junior Community Award from the Rotary Association earlier this month.
The picture shows Andrew Mitchell MP with Maisie Watts, Harriet Hughes and Jack Malpas who were chosen to show him their completed Rotary projects.
Andrew heard how Maisie and the others had visited Birmingham’s Council House as part of the scheme, as well as learnt how to cook quiche Lorraine and an iced Bakewell Tart!
Finally, Mr Mitchell toured the school during which he joined a meeting of the ‘Greenwatch’ Eco Club, popped into the Junior Library, Year 5 and Year 1 classrooms and sat with the infants in their colouring club.
Andrew Mitchell MP said, “I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to New Oscott Primary School where I was able to congratulate pupils on another successful year, as well as bid farewell to outgoing Headteacher Mrs Linda Whitfield. I hope everyone enjoys a very well-earned summer break.”
