The Royal Town’s MP has visited the bowling club in Mere Green to show support for their attempts to save the bowling green. The Bowling community has received a reprieve from the Council on the closure of the bowling green on the basis that the clubs that use it take over the management of it themselves, through a community asset management transfer scheme.
Andrew Mitchell visited the club together with local Councillor Anne Underwood to meet with members and discuss how to preserve the facility for the use of Suttonians in years to come. He met members from the Layhill Men’s Bowls Club, the Four Oaks Ladies’ Bowls Club and the Mere Green Bowls Club, and was able to watch one of the games going on at the time.
Following his visit he said “I am pleased to see such a thriving community here at the Bowls Club, and will do all that I can to raise awareness of the facility and its importance to those who use it”.
