Sutton’s MP has visited the John Taylor Hospice in nearby Erdington which provides support to Sutton Coldfield, as well as being the home of former Sutton Coldfield MP and photographer Sir Benjamin Stone. Andrew Mitchell had a meeting with the Clinical Business Manager, Jan Hipkiss, and Head of Brand and Media, Diane Parkes, to hear about the future plans of the Hospice and discuss any issues that they wanted to raise that Sutton’s MP could assist with.
Andrew Mitchell was keen to hear about the provision for Suttonians at the Hospice, one-fifth of whose patients are Sutton residents. He was given a tour of the facilities and met a number of staff, volunteers and patients who contribute so much to the calm and reassuring atmosphere at the Hospice. He heard a number of personal stories from both patients and staff about what the Hospice has done to give their patients a better experience at the Hospice, and was reassured particularly by the response of the families of patients that he met during his visit, who overwhelmingly praised the staff and facilities provided by the Hospice, and the approach taken in caring for their loved ones.
Sutton’s MP said “Not only is it evident from walking around how much effort has been put into creating a good environment for patients at the Hospice, but the dedication shown by the staff has clearly had a huge impact on the experience of both patients and families who visit the Hospice”.
Diane Parkes said “We were delighted to welcome our Sutton Coldfield MP Andrew Mitchell to visit John Taylor Hospice again. Andrew toured the Hospice, meeting staff, volunteers, patients and their families and finding out how John Taylor Hospice makes every moment matter for the people we care for”.
