Andrew Mitchell has met a delegation of Suttonians to discuss the plight of the Muslim community in Myanmar. They had a wide ranging discussion about the current situation in Myanmar, and the British Government’s response to the crisis facing them.
The delegation – numbering over 20 people – was led by Mrs Shahana Khan and encompassed a broad range of people, united in their concern about the ongoing persecution of the Muslim minority in Myanmar.
After their discussion Mr Mitchell agreed to raise the group’s concerns with the Foreign Secretary and discuss the next steps the Government is planning on taking on the international stage to deal with this issue.
Andrew Mitchell said “This was a significant delegation raising important matters and discussing their concerns both about the situation in Myanmar and the Government’s response. I look forward to continuing this conversation after I have made representations to the Foreign Secretary on their behalf”.
