The Conservative led Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council has stepped in to support the Royal British Legion Remembrance Day parade in Sutton Coldfield after an appeal from the Royal British Legion.
The Town Council has approved the funding for the Royal British Legion to cover the costs of hiring a traffic management company to oversee the road closures that are necessary for the parade.
Councillor Simon Ward, Leader of Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council said: “The annual Remembrance parade is an important event in the town, when we come together to remember the sacrifice of so many. The Town Council is very happy to support the parade with a grant to cover the essential costs. We were able to make a very quick decision and reassure the Royal British Legion that the parade can take place as planned.”
Roy Hubbard, Chairman of Sutton Coldfield Royal British Legion added:
"The Police have been very supportive over the years , unfortunately it appears they are no longer in a position to assist. We are really pleased that the Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council has agreed to provide the funding to cover the costs of the road closures which enables us to proceed with the arrangements for this years event."
