Cllr Janet Cairns has been working with Cllr Lyn Collin and Cllr Dr Andrew Hardie to solve the local problems with school parking.
Jan is encouraging Local Heads to sign up to the "Mode Shift Stars" scheme. This encourages children to design and take home letters and posters to their parents highlighting the awareness of the potential hazards of school parking. A Travel Plan for the school is also offered along with guidance on safer travel routes. On signing up to Mode Shift Stars the schools will also be eligible for additional enforcement support from Birmingham Council.
Parking around local schools has long been a major problem for residents and parents alike. Many are concerned by the safety issues, as well as the inconvenience caused when roads and drive ways are blocked.
Speaking about the scheme Councillor Janet Cairns said “We can all agree that safety must come first when it comes to school parking. This scheme will inform parents of their responsibility to park safely, educate children on road safety issues and provide enforcement around key areas at key times of parking disruption.”
