Local campaigner Alison Jolley is leading calls for the opening hours at Boldmere Library to be extended whilst the town centre library is closed.
The community library currently opens for just three days a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. It was revealed recently that the Town Centre library would close for 3 months for refurbishment, leaving many residents without access at key times.
Alison is now calling on the council to use this as an opportunity to extend the opening hours of Boldmere library to ensure that local people don't miss out on services.
Speaking about the plans Alison said “Like many local people, I enjoy using Boldmere Library, it hosts many wonderful community activities. With the Town Centre library closing for a period, it seems sensible to divert the resources to opening our community library even more. Having the library open more will encourage even more residents to get into the habit of using it.”
Town Councillor Louise Passey has supported the plans saying “Boldmere Library is a community hub, I think that extending the opening hours of our local library would be a great idea. Alison is clearly passionate about the library and has spotted a real opportunity to ensure that local people don't miss out while our Town Centre library is closed.”
