Local Conservative Councillors have joined the Library Lobby and other political parties to oppose library cuts in Sutton Coldfield.
Local Conservatives joined the protest outside of Birmingham Council House ahead of the full council meeting which took place this afternoon. In the council meeting a petition was presented signed by thousands of local people opposing cuts to library services. The cuts, brought by the ruling Labour Group, will see Sutton Coldfield Library closed and community library hours slashed.
The cuts come after it was revealed that Birminghams Labour Council had overspent by almost £75 million. The overspend includes eye watering levels of waste and spending on vanity projects whilst local services suffer.
Local Conservatives will continue to oppose Labours cuts after they presented a counter budget that would have seen library services secured.
