Sutton Coldfield’s MP Andrew Mitchell has welcomed the announcement of £1.4 billion of new investment in Midlands infrastructure to tackle problems on the roads, and support jobs and growth.
This investment will result in a transformation of the roads network in the region, including making major improvements to the M1 and M6. This will build on the work started since 2010, and will make major improvements to the M6 and M42.
This is part of a £15 billion Roads Investment Strategy setting out how the Government will invest in the roads network in England between 2015/16 and 2020/21, with over 100 schemes planned.
George Osborne said “Because we Conservatives have been working through our Long-Term Economic Plan over the last four years, we are able to invest an unprecedented sum into the Midlands. Today I am committing a further £1.4 billion of new funding for roads in the Midlands.
“For years these roads have suffered from underinvestment, resulting in congestion and delays. This has brought misery to motorists and undermined growth prospects of businesses. This new investment will help deal with these issues, creating jobs and opportunities for hardworking taxpayers throughout the Midlands. This never would have happened without the strong voice of Conservative MPs and candidates”.
Andrew Mitchell said “this is positive for drivers and businesses in Sutton Coldfield, who have for too long had to deal with the consequences of underinvestment in roads in the West Midlands. Fixing roads supports local businesses, helps jobs creation and makes life easier for everyone who relies on roads to get around”.
