Andrew Mitchell MP has met with representatives from Sutton Coldfield Civic Society as well as Birmingham City Council’s Planning & Regeneration team with responsibility for Sutton Coldfield as part of the Public Consultation process on the Sutton Coldfield High Street Conservation Area Character Appraisal and Management Plan (CAAMP).
The Draft Supplementary Planning Document for Sutton Coldfield aims to:
· Provide a definition of the High Street’s character and further protection of its heritage;
· Provide a sound basis for the determination of future Planning Applications made within the Conservation Area;
· Encourage economic success and the most appropriate economic development for the Town;
· Continue to protect the conservation area at the same time as allowing appropriate contemporary development.
Andrew Mitchell MP said, “Sutton Coldfield Civic Society has long campaigned for a Management Plan for the High Street Conservation Area and I am pleased the group has been able to work closely with the City Council to prepare the CAAMP document.”
“I am aware that many of my constituents have taken part in the public consultation. I feel that, on balance, the plan protects our heritage buildings as well as encouraging good design in new development.”
“The public participation and injection of local views has been enormously important to this process.”
Councillor Anne Underwood, Sutton Coldfield Constituency Chairman, said “The High Street Conservation Area is a unique location in Sutton Coldfield valued by many residents for its special architectural and historic interest.”
“The draft CAAMP has been designed to both protect and enhance the special character of this area and I am pleased local people have been given the opportunity to comment on the draft document before the City Council prepares the final version for formal adoption.”
