Andrew Mitchell MP has welcomed the Government’s announcement that it will provide an extra £100 million to councils for pothole repair.
The financial boost is especially valuable after the terrible weather this winter caused significant damage to many roads in Sutton Coldfield.
The Government’s move has been welcomed by the AA who estimate that if the £100 million is used entirely for roads it will repair 1.5 million potholes across the country.
The money is in addition to the £831 million already provided to councils for road maintenance this year and the £30 billion of transport infrastructure spending the Government has committed to over the next four years.
Andrew Mitchell said, “I have had many constituents write to me about potholes in Sutton, particularly those on Little Sutton Lane. This money should make a real difference in Sutton and to the huge number of drivers and cyclists who are fed up with having to continually battle against dangerous potholes, giving them safer and smoother journeys.”
