Andrew Mitchell has marked Armed Forces Day 2011 by taking the opportunity to say thank you to all those from Sutton Coldfield that are serving in the Armed Forces, their families, veterans and cadets and encouraged all to show their support on the day.
Commenting on Saturday’s Armed Forces Day [25 June] Andrew Mitchell MP said, “Armed Forces Day is a great opportunity for us to show our appreciation for all those who wear the uniform, their families, veterans and cadets. We owe a huge debt to our brave service personnel who work tirelessly keeping this country safe. I hope all those attending events across the UK on Saturday had a great day out and on behalf of all the people of Sutton Coldfield say a big thank you to our amazing Armed Forces.
“The Government and the Conservative party are both committed to providing for our troops. In the past year we have already doubled the operational allowance and introduced a pupil premium to help with the education of our forces children. It is with these practical policies that we show our commitment and gratitude to our brave forces.”
Sutton’s MP is one of only two Cabinet Ministers to have served in the Armed Forces; he served in the Royal Tank Regiment and with the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus in the 1970s.
