Sutton’s MP Andrew Mitchell has visited St George’s Court sheltered housing on Clarence Road in Four Oaks to view the accommodation and speak to residents.
St George’s Court is managed by Retirement Security Limited who is responsible for the management of 31 developments of Leasehold Very Sheltered Housing across England and Wales. The company invited local MP, Andrew Mitchell, to visit one of their Sutton Coldfield developments.
Mr Mitchell was greeted by Retirement Security Ltd Chief Executive, Stephen Ladyman. Andrew heard how the basic aim of the Very Sheltered Housing concept is to enable retired people to retain their independence for the whole of their lives.
Sutton’s MP went straight to the communal tea room where he met with about 30 residents of St George’s Court, including Mr Ken Overton who regularly corresponds with Andrew via letter and email. Mr Mitchell spoke about his work as their local Member of Parliament and also briefly explained his role as a Cabinet Minister.
A huge range of questions followed as residents gave the MP a grilling. Topics included the economy, High Speed 2 – including suggestions for improvement from a retired engineer, international aid and the NHS.
Andrew Mitchell MP said, “It is evident that the residents of St George’s are very happy.
“It is always interesting to meet with local residents – and I try to see constituents of all ages as often as possible – to share ideas and opinions.”
