Sutton’s MP Andrew Mitchell has visited independent travel agency Sutton Travel at Mitchell’s Art & Craft Centre.
After receiving a letter of introduction from owner and Director Andy Tomlinson, Mr Mitchell organised the visit to help bolster support for local businesses like Sutton Travel, as well to discuss the key issues facing travel agents and tour operators in the area.
A resident of Sutton Coldfield, Mr Tomlinson prides himself on providing targeted and independent travel services to the Sutton Coldfield community. He describes Sutton Travel as: “Your local, knowledgeable and independent ABTA bonded travel agency.”
Andrew Mitchell said, “It is great to see new businesses being set up in Sutton – a thriving private sector is vital for our economic recovery. I wish Sutton Travel every success.”
Andrew Mitchell discussed the issues facing an independent travel agency, including the recent rise in Air Passenger Duty, consumer protection within the sector and UK air capacity. Sutton’s MP was keen to hear Mr Tomlinson’s concerns and agreed that a local travel specialist was valuable to the area.
Speaking about Air Passenger Duty Andrew Mitchell MP said, “The Coalition Government is exploring changes to the aviation tax system, including reviewing proposals to switch from a per-passenger to a per-plane duty. My colleagues at the Department for Transport and the Treasury will be working closely as they develop our proposals and that any major changes will be subject to public consultation.”
Andy Tomlinson founded Sutton Travel eighteen months ago, based on twenty years previous experience in the travel industry. They employ three people from the local area and each year help hundreds of local residents take a much needed holiday.
